The ECLAM has established a Training Committee consisting of diplomates elected by the board. All training programmes must be approved by the ECLAM Training Committee and are subject to current College guidelines. Training Programmes are to be conducted by a laboratory animal using institution able to supply suitable space and facilities both for the use of laboratory animals and for high standard veterinary procedures in relation to these animals. Co-operation in the training with other institutions or clinics may be allowed, for example a nearby medical school. During the master period the student must be involved in performing, directing and supervising animal experiments, and take part in the current management of the laboratory animal department of affiliation. The Programme Director certifies as to whether the trainee has fulfilled this part in an acceptable way. All Training Programmes must be under the direct supervision of a Programme Director who is an ECLAM Diplomate for at least 2 years. The Trainee must meet formally with his/her Programme Director at least twice annually to evaluate the Trainee's performance and progress. The ECLAM Diplomate supervising the programme may enlist the help of other individual(s) (the 'Resident Advisor(s)') at the parent or other institutions. The qualifications of Resident Advisor(s) will vary with the subject area to be covered. For any period within the 4 years training and experience outside the minimum 2 years under direct supervision of an ECLAM diplomate a resident advisor, who is also an ECLAM diplomate, must be appointed, and this period of training assessed. List of Approved Training Programmes. An Alternate Training Programme is possible based on six years full time experience and training in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Details are in the Training Programme Guidelines. Eligibility for examination by this route will be determined by the Credentials Committee. e u r o p e a n c o l l e g e o f l a b o r a t o r y a n i m a l m e d i c i n e
